About

Hi,

I'm Mel, the face behind all things soal & co.

Creating beautiful jewellery has been a dream of mine for more years than I'd like to admit, but finally, here I am, showing my face (which is well out of my comfort zone) and my jewellery.

I've always been creative, teaching myself various crafts. Often making things for friends and family, whether it be crocheted, knitted or made from various other mediums (I promise I'm not as boring as I sound!).

I spent a few years exercising my creativity, as a photographer for my local newspaper, then going on to work for a large national portrait studio.

Initially, the dream of making jewellery was sparked whilst living in the Lincolnshire Wolds, when my two children were very small. I remember thinking, 'I'd love to make jewellery and photograph it' (which, as it turns out, is much harder than it sounds). Five years later, after moving back to Nottinghamshire, I finally had the opportunity to attend a short silversmithing course. Since then, my knowledge and skill has been built watching hours of "how to" videos and reading everything I can to teach myself how to make jewellery. Roll on ten years from my silversmithing course (yes, ten years and a few life hurdles) and here I am!

I really love making timeless, classic jewellery, that people will hopefully treasure.

I hope that you like what I make.

Mel x
